Information Literacy Toolkit

December 8th, 2004

A website for Associated Lecturers (tutors). This site is the first I’ve produced to use the new OU branding. It’s only available to people with a staff logon. Incidentally, today is the day that the OU launches the newly branded website (not live yet at 15:30, but will be live by this evening). Whilst I […]

Five years later

December 7th, 2004

Still my one true inspiration in life. Gone but not forgotten. Greatly missed.

Rebuilding Deathbru: part one

November 30th, 2004

Last night’s listening to Deathbru session proved to be rather interesting. Having not listened to much of the material recorded back in 1999 in the last five years I was able to re-evaluate the songs with fresh ears. Amazingly, it wasn’t as much of a painful experience as I’d expected. The endless bounce-downs of 4-track […]

New Deathbru 4 U

November 29th, 2004

A drunken conversation over a tasty curry last Friday has spurred me onto thinking about recording some new material for my band. For the last five years Deathbru has been neatly folded away as I’ve been doing proper adult things like buying a house, preparing for marriage and dealing with life in general. Harry Deans, […]

What’s making my phone buzz? / What’s making my power surge?

November 22nd, 2004

Updated: 25th November We’ve got two wireless phones in our house that receive a signal from a central pod from the master BT point. The phones work fine, except when stood in certain areas of the house. In these peculiar areas we get a buzzing noise in the phone. I’ve no idea why this is. […]

Astra 1.6 16v SXi (1999 T-reg) review

November 18th, 2004

Never a popular choice with the style-pack, often branded as dull and anoymous, the Vauxhall Astra has often been given a raw deal by the motoring press. This inevitably filters down to buyers who like their cars to denote some sort of status. Yet the Mark 4 Astra is a total joy to drive. It’s […]

The curse of Radio 1

November 16th, 2004

Last night I watched a programme about Radio 1. It was broadcast on channel Five of all places and narrated by Chris Tarrant. Tarrant, of course, was a long-time ratings rival of the Radio 1 breakfast show and took a large hit when Chris Evans was in the hot seat. So it was inevitable that […]

Nautical Napkins

November 12th, 2004

When I was nine years old I recorded my own radio shows using an old tape recorder and a copy of Now That’s What I call Music 13. Never got a show broadcast on air, though we did write a few letters to various local radio stations. Ocean Sound in Southampton even wrote back with […]

Karting in style

November 11th, 2004

Did I mention we went Karting on Sunday? Well here we all are, lined up in our boiler suits just before hitting the track. Note Shay (the tallest, wearing his helmet) standing at the back. His overalls didn’t fit and were undoubtedly painful around the crotch. Rogue Racing need to invest in some threads for […]

Deans ‘adopts’ the foetal position

November 9th, 2004

Celebrating 26 years of my shuffling around on planet earth this weekend, Deans adopting or ‘assuming’ the foetal position was a common occurance. We drank, we ate, we bowled and we Karted. Indeed it was a birthday that nearly managed to top my 18th for unashamed hedonism. Job done. Jog on.
